Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo) has recently become the proud possessor of a Golden Globe, an Emmy and a SAG award. Now, the woman who once considered herself the "anthrax of television" and almost quit acting, has a shot at the big one: an Oscar.
Huffman is nominated for the 'Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role' Oscar for her role as Bree in Transamerica, and will go up against Judi Dench (Mrs. Henderson Presents), Keira Knightley (Pride & Prejudice), Charlize Theron (North Country) and Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line) on Sunday March 5 2006. Transamerica picked up one other nomination, for the song "Travelin' Thru". The 2006 Oscar nominations were dominated by Brokeback Mountain, which received a total of eight nominations.
Speaking before her Golden Globe win and Oscar nomination, Huffman told statesman.com that she was waiting for the ride to end. "Listen, I'm thrilled with my Golden Globe nomination. Believe me when I tell you I think all the time now that I am Cinderella and the clock's about to strike midnight and the coach turns back into a pumpkin."
Huffman also admitted that she doesn't think she's a typical celebrity. "You know, I'm a terrible celebrity," she said. "I'm always ready to throw something on, and I'll be stopped by people who say, 'Dear, that doesn't look very nice' or 'You've worn it three times already!' To me, the public part of the life is where I think somebody is going to come up and say, 'Fraud! This is only for beautiful people!'"
