By Antony August 30, 2006 - 5:03 PMThe second season of Desperate Housewives has made its region one DVD debut, with castmembers talking about the second season and reviewers giving their opinions on the box set.
Ricardo Antonio Chavira told CanMag said that his favorite scenes in season two mostly were mostly sexual. "When my character made out with Felicity Huffman’s character, when my character undressed Eva’s character, when my character was getting it on with my Asian maid’s character, basically all the sex stuff. All the sex stuff is good," he said. He also said that a deleted scene involving a "fudgecicle is almost pornographic."
Rick Porter in his review at Zap2it said that the second season's flaws were more apparent on DVD. "Watching the show in bulk on the Housewives season two DVD set, those weaknesses tend to pile up some. Most notably, you get the sense of just how little time the four principal characters spend together, as each housewife is wrapped up in her own story." But he said the was a "sizable cache" of extras, and the show still had many benefits. "For all the talk about the decline of Desperate Housewives, there's a reason it's still one of the most popular shows on TV".
Todd Camp said the second season was underrated. "Much was made of the sophomore slump of creator Marc Cherry's soapy slice of suburban weirdness. But the second season still served up a lot of must-see moments, especially for oft-neglected housewife Eva Longoria [Gabrielle Solis], whose catfight with a scheming nun on the altar of a Catholic church rivaled Crystal and Alexis' fountain slugfest on Dynasty."
"While the series lost a lot of the novelty of the first season, it seems to have stayed true to formula," wrote Scott Chitwood at ComingSoon.net. "The characters still act the same and are thrown into more and more dramatic and amusing situations." He said there was a "great selection of bonus features" rating them 9/10.
Liam Cullin at Empire Movies said the first season got him hooked, and he eagerly awaited season two. "Well, the show's second season was certainly a little 'different' from the first. I'm not going to say that I didn't like it. After all, if I didn't I wouldn't have continued watching. But there were a few problems," he wrote, before he went on to analyze the dramatic plotlines that have befallen the various characters. He also noted the lack of audio commentaries and season three preview.
