Laura Leighton, wife of Doug Savant (Tom Scavo), will be joining her husband on ABC today, as her new show Eyes makes its debut.
Airing tonight at 10pm, Eyes sees Leighton star as Leslie Town, a member of Judd Risk Management according to the official Eyes website. "A discreet, high-tech firm that handles cases with the highest possible stakes, while operating at the absolute fringe of the law," ABC promises the fictional company will offer blackmail and intrigue in its dealings, and agendas and secrets from its staff.
The show, which joins Lost and Alias on ABC's Wednesday night schedule, has received good initial reviews. "At long last, ABC's Wednesday nights are perfect," wrote Melanie McFarland for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. "You can misplace the remote for three hours. The network has finally locked down a prime-time block of pure appointment television."
Jonathan Smokowicz at The Pitt News thinks ABC may be on to another winner. "Assuming the writers can continue the established pace, Eyes exhibits promise that could make it ABC's third consecutive success story this season, following the hits Lost and Desperate Housewives. [Lead actor Timothy Daly] exudes leading-role presence as the charismatic Judd, putting him in a league with Matthew Fox of Lost and Teri Hatcher of Housewives."
Charlie McCollumn for The Mercury News was also enthusiastic. "In a TV world largely taken up by often dark and dour cop procedurals, reality TV and laughless comedies, we haven't seen an awful lot of high-quality escapist programming lately (although Desperate Housewives certainly falls into the category). Now, along comes ABC's Eyes, a new series that is smart, snappy and as invigorating as cool breeze on a mid-July afternoon."
Savant and Leighton are both being kept busy by their ABC programs, but they are more than happy with that. "(Life) only gets complicated when our workdays overlap," Leighton told USA Today. "But we're happy to have that problem." USA Today also revealed that Leighton tried to get a role on Desperate Housewives, but was told by creator Marc Cherry that she was too young. Savant, who of course did get on the show, meanwhile said he is enjoying the mystery about his character. "It's awesome," he said. "I love it."
Eyes airs tonight on ABC at 10pm.
