ABC has announced the premiere dates and times for its fall schedule programs.
Desperate Housewives returns to its customary 9pm slot on Sunday September 25, according to a press release at The Futon Critic. It is joined once again by lead-in show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (in a two hour season premiere) and lead-out show Grey's Anatomy. Lost will air at 9pm on Wednesdays, acting as a springboard for new drama Invasion. While Alias moves to Thursdays at 8pm to act as a lead-in show for Night Stalker.
With so many new successes on its schedule, many eyes will be on ABC to see if it can continues its winning streak. But ABC's Steve McPherson is remaining cautious. "I'm going to be about what's next," he told Variety. "This is a job where you are judged on what you did last week. You're not judged on what you did two years ago. That's good. We have to be constantly focused on the future." Remaining grounded, he said ABC was "at the beginning of rebuilding".
McPherson said that this year they will need to rethink their advertising strategy again. "Marketing is a huge obsession of mine, and I think it's a huge obsession of the network," he said. "We come with fresh eyes and try to just attack it as if we've never done this before. ... but the problem is, because [last year's marketing] worked, it has become really competitive. I really can't get into it because people are ripping the ideas off."
One thing that the network will be utilizing again is advertising on laundry bags, according to MSNBC. Last year, taking a cue from he storyline in the show, Desperate Housewives was advertised on dry cleaning bags with the slogan "Everyone has a little dirty laundry". This year the slogan on the bags will be "New season, new dirty laundry" and for some lucky customers a free Desperate Housewives shirt will be included.
The full list of fall premiere dates can be found over at The Futon Critic. The full interview with McPherson can be read at Variety. And there's more on the laundy bag advertising over at MSNBC. Discuss this news item at Talk Desperate!
