Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp) said recently that she was impressed with the scripts from the beginning, but didn't expect the show to be such a success.
"I certainly thought the writing was incredible [...] for the 'Pilot' script," she told the titular chat show hosts on Richard and Judy (via Television Without Pity forums). "As an actor, you just really hope that it makes it on the air [...] you just hope that, you know, it gets picked up for 13, or a year. But when I read the second episode I got the goosebumps, because I just thought it was so good. And it wasn't a fluke. It was then like 'Oh! Somebody knows what they're doing!' Marc of course, [show creator] Marc Cherry. So I certainly did have a feeling that there was something extraordinary there, but you never know."
Cross also spoke about some of the challenges that face her in her role. One of them is "keeping the weight off", she said. "I'd rather eat a little more frankly. But now, it just goes with the territory." She also said she doesn't know what stories will face her in season two, but that they may not be pleasant to deal with. "I have no idea what I'm gonna come back to. All I know is that this is going to be a woman in the throws of loss... which isn't very happy."
Long December, who transcribed this interview, recounted meeting Cross after her TV appearance. "As someone who met Miss Cross in person on Friday (e.g. the best day ever), the woman is absolutely stunning in the flesh," he said. "She wasn't supposed to sign autographs, the people who worked for the television show they were on kept saying that none of them [...] were doing it. But Marcia took pity on us poor little fans, and came over. Whereas Nicolette [Sheridan, Edie Britt] and James [Denton, Mike Delfino] got straight into their cars and were driven away."
Thank you to Long December for the transcript. You can read the full transcript, and more on Long December's encounter with Cross, over at the Television Without Pity forums. Discuss this news item at Talk Desperate!
