Online reviewers have weighed in on the latest Desperate Housewives.

Here's what they had to say about "Could I Leave You?":

  • Michael Slezak was back reviewing for EW.com, said he has given up on having good mystery in season two:

Okay, so I've given up hope that Marc Cherry and his writing team are planning on delivering any kind of riveting overarching mystery for Desperate Housewives' sophomore season. I made peace with this conclusion midway through tonight's episode, right around the time the sadly underutilized Alfre Woodard made an appearance on my TV screen. I will now pause this TV Watch for a brief look at my internal monologue: 'Hey, that's Betty Applewhite! What's she doing on the show? I thought she'd disappeared with Susan's daughter sometime around the holidays, right after that promising (and quite chilling) confrontation she had with Bree. I wonder how come they never really followed through on that. Is it possible that Woodard's per-episode salary is so high that the producers can't afford to give her much work? That would be one explanation why every scene with Woodard looks pretty much identical—Betty trapped on Wisteria Lane, in some nondescript silk blouse, having yet another argument with her son. Come to think of it, is it possible the show's producers decided to save some money this week by inserting some old, unused Woodard footage from back in the fall? It wouldn't be the hardest thing to pull off, and...oh wait. Her scene's finished. That was quick.'

You can read his full analysis over at EW.com, where he did praise the show's "twisted attention to detail".

  • But Dave Anderson at TV Guide Online didn't even mention the Applewhites, but did enjoy Bree's story. "Another episode in which I most enjoyed the Bree story line. Oh my, that Andrew is turning into a real monster. Bree getting drunk at a department store, passing out in the dressing room and getting locked inside the store cracked me up. [...] It was great that Bree put all of her wine bottles into a huge box for Goodwill, but does Goodwill even accept liquor? Either way, good step in the right direction."

  • Sarah Gilbert back at TV Squad said the episode was very predictable. "While it's all deliciously dramatic, devious and diabolical, boy was this episode predictable. From the five-year-old breastfeeder (saw it a mile away) to Dr. Ron's inevitable discovery that Mike was not just a figment of Susan's laughing gas high, to Bree realizing that she does have a problem—if you couldn't see it happening just by the previews, well... you ain't the sharpest pair of scissors in the bundle." She added that the Applewhite story seemed "a bit forced", and said that while the episode was "not perfect" it was "enough to keep me watching".

  • There is also brief recap at Television Without Pity, where visitors have so far rated the episode B+ in a poll.
