By Christian September 25, 2005 - 7:59 PMHello World! So are you all dying to find out what Zach will do in tonight's episode? Or what the new secret involving the Applewhites is? I bet you all think there's nothing worse than having to wait four months to find out the resolution to a big summer cliffhanger.
Well, I can tell you there is: waiting half a year for a resolution to what's not a cliffhanger at all, because that's what the situation here in the Netherlands is. We never get to see new American shows in September, but rather sometime in Feburary or March or so, when the local television stations here have been able to determine which shows are hits and which aren't. From that moment on, they begin airing those shows without any intermittent reruns, so from the spring on we were able to watch a dozen episodes without interruption.
But unfortunately, then it ended, because just like in the United States, Dutch television stations don't like showing new episodes in the summer, when there's no one around to see them. So halfway through the season, Dutch television simply pulled DH off the screen, and pretended they had actually reached the end of the first season -- they hope most local viewers won't realise a season actually consists of at least twenty episodes.
Last month they finally were to resume airing Desperate Housewives -- only to first start by repeating the final two episodes we'd seen already in May. And then they began showing new episodes again, but I must admit I missed the first one, simply because there wasn't a giant cliffhanger that I wanted to see resolved. A week later I managed to remember new episodes were airing again, and now I'm hooked again -- but sorry I missed that one episode.
So next time you're complaining about those cruel creators who put in a cliffhanger, think again -- if they didn't, you might just lose interest, and kick yourself afterwards for missing out on some of the funniest moments DH has to offer.
