By Antony August 25, 2005 - 7:11 PMThe massive success of Desperate Housewives has made its castmembers household names, and that has translated into them becoming very appealing to advertisers.
Eva Longoria, arguably the castmember with the highest exposure, does the voiceover for Sirius Satellite Radio commercials and is the new face of L'Oréal. "The fact she's in more than 20 million households each week is not a bad thing to have," president for the L'Oréal Paris division New York Carol Hamilton told the New York Times.
As previously reported, Nicolette Sheridan (Edie Britt) and Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp) teamed up to promote a new line of 7-Up drinks. Randy Gier, chief marketing officer for Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, echoed Hamilton's comments. "We went through a litany of potential candidates," he said. "Obviously, it doesn't hurt that they're on the No. 1 show on television."
Gier said that the fact the castmembers are well known saves time when introducing the product. "When you use celebrities, their personalities make that instant connection with the consumer," he said. "If you spend the 30 seconds explaining the personality then you can't spend the time talking about the product."
