Nicolette Sheridan (Edie Britt) has signed up to play opposite Lucy Liu and Cedric the Entertainer in the upcoming comedy thriller The Cleaner.

The British Daily Mail, who interviewed Sheridan during her current Desperate Housewives promotion tour in the UK, said Sheridan will begin filming her role sometime in August. This will present the actress with a busy schedule, as during the six weeks that she'll be working on The Cleaner in Vancouver, she'll also have to frequently fly back to Los Angeles to film her scenes for the second Desperate Housewives season.

According to the Internet Movie Database, The Cleaner centers on an amnesiac janitor (Cedric) who is fooled into believing he's an undercover agent on the trail of an international arms ring involving the CIA and FBI. Lucy Lui will play an actual agent who falls for the janitor, while Elizabeth Hurley will apparently play a femme fatale who uses the hapless worker for her Machiavellian devices. It is not yet known what role Sheridan will play.

Sheridan is in the United Kingdom to promote the local airings of Desperate Housewives, which have been a great success for the British Channel Four television station. Along with James Denton (Mike Delfino), Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp) and Brenda Strong (Mary Alice Young), she appeared on the Richard and Judy talk show, while Sheridan appeared together with her golden retriever Oliver at a seafood restaurant to meet Daily Mail reporter Baz Bamigboye. She said she'd also attended a launch party for the British DH first-season DVD, and will this weekend attend the Monte Carlo Television Festival.

Speaking with Bamigboye, Sheridan recalled how she had originally auditioned for the role of Bree Van De Kamp, rather than for that of Edie. "I turned up and the director and producer looked at me," she said. "I think I was wearing a sheer blouse and something tight. And they said: 'No, no, no! You're Edie!'"
