By Antony April 25, 2005 - 12:01 AMHello World! So, election mood is sweeping the UK. Well, that's not exactly true. The public has its usual sense of apathy, and this is certainly no Bush/Kerry battle. Still, after avidly watching the US election I now have to retrain myself to remember that blue is bad.
For those not that acquainted with the main UK parties, I was amused by these three paragraphs in a recent BBC article. I just felt that these three short paragraphs in an article about possible fuel protests really summed up everything about the parties in a nutshell:
A Labour Party spokesman declined to comment on the threat of demonstrations.
But a Conservative spokesman said: "Fuel tax is likely to be higher under Labour than us because they are going to have to raise taxes to pay for the unsustainable borrowing levels."
A Liberal Democrat spokesman said the party was "obviously sympathetic" with the hauliers' cause, but added: "We don't think punishing other innocent road users and businesses will help."
Labour ignore the complaints, the Conservatives are shameless opportunists and the Liberal Democrats try to be reasonable and appeal to everyone.
Of course, I'm simplifying matters but it really is like this. Who'd have thought that for all of these overpaid analysts the media has, I worked it out in no time at all. It's all about hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil. Labour (hear no evil, they just ignore things that they want to), Conservatives (see no evil, they don't want any dirty foreigners in the country) and the Liberal Democrats (speak no evil, they don't want to criticize for the sake of it).
And I'm sure there are many that would find the three monkeys analogy quite apt. Talk Desperate! threads Below are some of the topics currently being discussed at Talk Desperate!:
