By Antony June 23, 2006 - 5:41 PMKevin Murphy has signed a "seven figure" deal to remain with Desperate Housewives for at least two more seasons.
Murphy will continue as co-executive producer of Housewives, and also has the option to develop new projects for Touchstone according to Variety. "I've got such a huge investment in these storylines, these characters and this cast," he said. "Touchstone, ABC and Marc Cherry are the holy trinity of innovative television."
Murphy said that the first episode of season three has been scripted, and work is underway on the second. Early episodes will apparently deal with the emerging relationship between Bree and Orson, which he called "dark and exciting." There will also be another new love interest for Susan, and a battle between the Solises which will echo the 1989 movie The War of the Roses where husband and wife Oliver and Barbara Rose set out to destroy each others' lives in a bitter divorce battle.
Murphy also said the early episodes would feature a wedding and a "big twist" in episode seven.
Looking to the future, Murphy said he has an idea for a mythology-based drama. "I love to do character stuff that has a little dash of the unusual, or the paranormal," he said. "I'm a big comicbook fan, and I love the idea of speculative fiction. But for the time being I want to focus on making Housewives as good as it can possibly be."
