Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp) realizes that her character's life isn't going smoothly right now, but said she'd like to see things get worse for poor Bree and is not eager for a quick fix to her woes.
"She's so on the decline and I'd like it to get deeper", she told TV Quick. "It's not the happiest of times for her but I don't want it to get cleaned up too fast because that would not be true. She really messed up with her kids. Andrew is off the rails and her daughter is a hussy! They have every right to loathe her at the moment."
Her opinion does carry some weight, as Cross said the Marc Cherry encourages the cast to voice their opinions. "I put in my two cents," she said. "They don't write down everything I say, but they listen with a great deal of respect. You can't ask for more than that. I don't think I'm a natural comedienne and Marc has taught me a lot about the humor in her character."
She added that the writers continue to shock her with character developments. "I'm always surprised because she's gone down so many paths that I wonder how I'm going to do it all. I thought when I started the show that I had taken the biggest risk of my life. Every day, I thought I would get fired, because when you do a character and you have to punch it up, that's a scary place to go. She's larger than life."
Cross also spoke about her engagement to Tom Mahoney, and the ever-present paparazzi. "It can be hard being in the spotlight," she admitted. "I was looking for Valentines the other weeks and all of a sudden there's a photographer in my face. It ruined it. I got in my car and had to go home. It's hard because I enjoy being casual and I don't want to be photographed every minute of my life."
