Online reviewers have weighed in on the eight episode of Desperate Housewives season two.

Here's what they had to say about "The Sun Won't Set":

  • Michael Slezak reviewing for EW.com praised Longoria, even if her story didn't add up. "Props go out to Longoria herself for managing to wring both pathos and belly laughs from a line as tricky as "How can you name something the size of a walnut?" Delivering dialogue that, on first glance, makes Gaby sound as if she were cracking jokes about her recently lost fetus, Longoria offered just the briefest flash of the pain beneath her character's comic mask ... I wouldn't argue, however, with anyone who pointed out that, held under a microscope, Gaby's story line strained credibility in other ways. After just having been surprised by an intruder in her home and suffering a miscarriage as a result, wouldn't she be more vigilant in checking out ex-con dude's back story, especially before climbing into his rusty car?"

  • Dave Anderson at TV Guide Online praised the warmth Gabrielle showed, and had some theories about the children in Wisteria Lane. "Gabrielle actually showed some warmth for a change, releasing that red balloon and telling that ex-con the names she had chosen for her baby before the miscarriage. Then there's Lynette asking the office assistant to kidnap her twins just to prove a point to her hubby. Where was the other son? For a while it was just the other son and they never showed the twins. Yes, I'm sure the character was at school, but something tells me the producers feel 'less is more' when it comes to shooting scenes with kids."

  • A scene-by-scene summary by RT can be found at Desperate for Desperate Housewives.

  • There is also brief recap at Television Without Pity, where visitors have so far rated the episode B in a poll.

  • There is also a general show review at Townhall.com. "Desperate Housewives is well made, both cleverly written and expertly acted," wrote Rebecca Cusey. She also analyzed the appeal of the show to teenagers, and how it has offended conservatives. "While deploring the tawdry content of Desperate Housewives, we should not miss the other side of the coin. The show is a morality play, both embracing the ethics of the day and pointing out the hypocrisies in the current ethical system. In an entertaining, but sex-fueled way, it asks questions that need to be asked."

  • Finally, to tide you over to the next new episode, there is a new episode of Desperate Houseflies online.
