Desperate Housewives put in a considerably stronger than normal ratings performance last night as it finished up its second season with a two-hour finale.
According to figures released by Zap2it, the first half of "Remember" scored a 14.3 rating with a 22 share rising to 15.5/25 in its second hour. These figures mean that of all households in the United States with television sets, 14.3% were tuned into DH in its first hour, as well as 22% of those households actually watching television on Sunday at 9:00pm. At 10pm it was 15.5% and 25% respectively.
These numbers were up considerably on recent ratings. Two week's ago the show got 13.2/20, and last week when up against the Survivor finale it fell to 12.7/19. At 9pm it beat a CSI: Miami rerun on CBS and NBC's telemovie 10.5: Apocalypse. In the 10pm slot it laid waste to a CBS re-run of CSI: New York and the second half of NBC's telemovie. In fact Housewives beat both CBS and NBC combined in the ratings in this hour.
But according to figures posted at Mediaweek, the episode had 23.96 million viewers, which was down markedly from the 30.62 million viewers of last season's finale. It's not a bad day for a network when it receives "only" 24 million viewers, but expect some elements of the media to capitalize on a 4 million drop within a year.
With Grey's Anatomy airing its season finale last week, Housewives didn't have to share the stage and was easily the most watched show of the evening. Overall for the evening ABC's 10.7/17 easily beat CBS's 7.6/12 and NBC's 5.1/8. Fox and the WB trailed behind. In the all-important 18-49 demo, ABC's 7.0 doubled Fox's 3.5.
