By Antony November 21, 2006 - 5:22 PMDixie Cater (Gloria Hodge), who has joined the show for a seven-episode stint as Orson Hodge's mother, talked about how Marc Cherry offered her the role in the show and how they previously worked together.
"Marc called me, and it was really exciting," she told dailynews.com. "He said, 'I have something nice for you to do if you are willing to de-glam. The woman is older and needs to be gray and not made up.' I said, 'OK, fine, I'll do it.' The part is quite wonderful."
Carter and Cherry had worked before, but not in the same capacity. When Carter worked on Designing Women during the '80s and early '90s Cherry was her personal assistant. "Marc was very memorable, a very memorable young man," she said. "He was always observing. We knew he was a writer. [...] He never got upset with the zaniness of our life."
She said she is quite clear about her new character's personality. "We all just go along not knowing really what we are, but I just know I'm bad—I'm a bad mama. I like to hit the liquor cabinet, and they don't like having me there on Wisteria Lane." Discuss this news item at Talk Desperate!
