Online reviewers have weighed in on the latest episode of season three of Desperate Housewives.

Here's what they had to say about "Beautiful Girls":

  • Annie Barrett at EW.com said she found Gaby's storyline the most compelling

As a beauty consultant for her friend Vern's new pageant-training business, Gaby initially was horrified by the plain-Jane runway show; later, she accidentally endorsed bulimia and cigarettes to a group of preteens while reminiscing about her catwalk days. But without any prompting, Gaby surprised herself by starting to care. The writers worked out a healthy balance between real issues and superficiality—making an impassioned plea to the mothers to let her return, Gaby hinted at the black-market diet pills she could score for them, in bulk. Those ladies were lovin' that idea, and I was lovin' how realistic the 12 new mother and daughter characters were. Gaby hilariously called them a 'petting zoo,' but I'll go with 'refreshingly unglamorous.' I hope they'll keep coming back, at least for a few more eps.

You can read her full analysis over at EW.com.

  • Dave Anderson at TV Guide Online was a fan of the change of pace for Gaby too. "How refreshing it was tonight for Gabrielle to focus on something besides being mean to Carlos and trying to rejuvenate her modeling career. I enjoyed all of Gaby's scenes with the young girls—the highlight was when she convinced that shy, skinny little blonde girl to focus on being confident and giving the proper attitude. Best Eva Longoria line was when Gaby was strutting her stuff on the faux catwalk and said to the gals: 'Yes, I'm unbelievable. Close your mouths,' and they all closed their mouths."

  • But Jen Creer at TV Squad however said it was a "predictable" story. "A predictable storyline, but what the hell? You're trying to help little girls learn how to model, but you're feeding them pizza and telling them how models use bulimia and laxatives to lose weight? Also, just because you are a skinny minny and can eat whatever you want, maybe you could have bought them all a nice salad? At any rate, I don't really care—I think Gaby really does need to do something for others, and I think she really does need something worthwhile to fill her days, and working with kids is great. Would you have forgiven Gaby if you had been one of those mothers?"

  • Jeff Commings at AZNightBuzz.com also weighed in. "Gabrielle continues to find ways to spend her days, and this week had her molding the minds of some young girls who took some unintended advice and started smoking, wretching and asking about 'Gomorrah parties.' But Gabby won over the parents by offering them illegal weight-loss pills—in bulk. Who can say no to that?"

  • There is also brief recap at Television Without Pity, where visitors have so far rated it a B.
