By Antony July 22, 2005 - 12:41 AMIt can't be easy being up against the biggest new TV show of the 2004–2005 TV season, but CBS has vowed to fight back as Desperate Housewives enters its second season.
"We know we're up against a juggernaut on Sunday nights, so we have to adjust our strategy," CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler told TV critics at the Television Critics Association summer press tour (via The Washington Post). However Tassler doesn't expect an easy fix. "You can't just bottle or pre-package a show like Desperate Housewives," she said, as she unveiled a number of telemovies to start the Sunday night battle.
'CBS Sunday Movie' kicks off on September 25, and will encompass "high-concept, action and adventure and two films based on real events" according to a press release at The Futon Critic. Films include: Mayday, which is based upon the book of the same name, and focuses on an airliner its way to Tokyo which is accidentally hit by a U.S. Navy test missle; The Hunt for the BTK Strangler, which is based upon the true story of the serial killer known as the BTK killer who went on a 31-year spree of murders in Kansas; And Time Bomb, a thriller about a threat received by Homeland Security that says a football stadium is rigged to explode in the fourth quarter.
CBS has a schedule dominated by procedural shows, including three CSI shows, but Tassler denied that the network had too many. "We have struck a chord with our audiences," she said (via MediaWeek), stating that rating were solid for the shows. "We will let our viewers tell us when they've had enough."
