Aaron Sorkin, probably most famous for creating political drama The West Wing, is heading back to television and Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo) has signed on to star in his new show.
Huffman, who was the lead actress in Sorkin's Sports Night before it was axed after just two seasons on ABC, has signed on to appear in Sorkin's pilot for Studio 7 On The Sunset Strip reported The Futon Critic. Huffman also had made a one-off guest appearance on West Wing.
Like Sports Night, Studio 7 will give a glimpse at behind the scenes of TV. But instead of a sports program, Studio 7 will focus on a comedy sketch show based in Los Angeles. Huffman will reportedly play a "guest presenter" in the pilot.
This will be Sorkin's first TV show since leaving The West Wing back in 2003. NBC beat CBS to the rights, but had to make a number of concessions including a promise not to air the new show at the weekend. It is likely to gain a place on the 2006 Fall schedules.
"Aaron Sorkin's work is truly in a class all its own, and Tommy Schlamme, time and again, has delivered exceptional television," said NBC's president of entertainment Kevin Reilly. "This project is a noisy, compelling combination of bold drama and laugh-out-loud comedy."
