Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry said recently that he wants to do an episode that delves into the characters' pasts, showing how they began their lives that we see featured in the show today.
"At one point, I would love to do an episode showing the day when all the women moved onto Wisteria Lane," he told TV Guide. However, he's not sure on when it would occur. "I don't know if it's a season 2 thing or a season 3 thing. But it's something I want to do in the future."
One of the benefits in having flashbacks is that characters that have died, like Rex Van De Kamp and Martha Huber, can make appearances in the show. "I would want everyone back," he said. "I would love to always keep my little repertory company as close to me as possible."
Shows using episodes to reveal how their main characters got together is nothing new, and has been used to good effect before by shows ranging from Friends to the West Wing. In 1996, Friends writers delved into some of the first meetings between the six friends in "The One With The Flashback". The West Wing delved into how President Bartlett's presidential campaign got off the ground, and the events leading up to what is featured in the show on a regular basis.
