Online reviewers have weighed in on last week's Desperate Housewives episode.

Here's what they had to say about "Not While I'm Around":

• Annie Barrett at EW.com tried to guess what Alma was up to, and to decipher the mystery surrounding Monique:

  The sense of danger and general doom at Casa Alma in that final scene, especially with the soundscape of broken glass and a squawking parrot, rivaled some of the Applewhite escapades in the same house, so at least Alma is respecting neighborhood tradition. She also fits in because she's acting really (get this) desperate for Orson's affection. 'Don't take away my hope,' she pleaded. Huh? I get the feeling she's not for real with the pining and might be plotting something further against Orson. And what do we think of the whole Monique thing at this point? If those were indeed Monique's teeth, it'd seem that Alma killed her, but last night, while talking to Orson, she referred to 'what you did to Monique.' And where does the elusive Gloria Hodge fit in? In Alma's ready-made dungeon perhaps?

• Dave Anderson at TV Guide Online said the episode was "funnier than normal" and loved the scenes involving Bree and Orson. "Best Bree/Orson dialogue was Orson to Bree: 'I will get Alma out of that house. I don't care if I have to live up to my reputation and strangle her.' Bree: 'Oh, you're a good husband.' I like when mysterious things happen, such as Bree finding the photo of Orson and Monique, along with a handful of someone's teeth. Monique's, can we assume? That Alma brilliantly taught her bird to say 'Don't tell Bree' in front of Bree killed me. And how about Bree at the very end of the episode, with the teeth in her hand, calling and leaving a message for Orson to come home soon and then grabbing for her gun while looking out the window and seeing a smiling Alma wave to her? Was she wanting to shoot Alma or Orson... or just protect herself from either of them? Oh, the mystery."

• Jen Creer at TV Squad was also guessing and also perplexed by the mysteries. "Bree had the best line of the show, hands down. 'It's like I am hosting some kind of Mormon slumber party!' On the Bree front, whoa: Finding Monique's teeth? That's pretty damning. Is it a coincidence that Orson is a dentist? So, is this what Alma knows about Orson? Or did Mike take out all of Monique's teeth? And how does Orson's mother know that Orson ran over Mike? Ahhh, so many un-answered questions. Did you hear that they are going to start filming DH in Marcia Cross's bedroom, because she has been put on bed rest? They have two more episodes to shoot, so they are going to film them on location, so to speak. So, who do you think Bree's going to go after with her shiny, black pistol? Alma? Or Orson?"

• But Jeff Commings at AZNightBuzz.com meanwhile said he wasn't surprised by the teeth antics of Alma and was more shocked by Julie lieing to Susan. "I was appalled to see that Julie is now lying to Susan. As I said last week, I was upset that Julie was losing her virginity to Austin because she felt like a loser. At the beginning of the episode, she kept that a secret from Susan and went to Edie to get birth-control pills. High marks to Gabrielle for finding them in a false cassette tape (obviously, she did the same thing as a teen)."
