Eva Longoria People Guide,
Marc Cherry People Guide As the Emmy awards were announced last week, it became clear that Eva Longoria (Gabrielle Solis) was the only main castmember to not be nominated. But creator Marc Cherry recently said that he thinks Longoria only just missed out, and plans to help her win some awards in the future.
"I'd bet Eva was the sixth nominee, just a couple of votes behind someone else," Cherry told USA Today. The three other main castmembers, Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer), Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp) and Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo) were all nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series, alongside actresses from Everybody Loves Raymond and Malcolm in the Middle.
Cherry said he wasn't sure why Longoria didn't make the nomination cut. "I don't know if it's because she's the youngest or so incredibly gorgeous," he said, "or because the other women have been kicking around for longer and have a lot of [voting] friends in the industry who are so happy they've caught a second wave," noting that Sex and the City's Kristin Davis only got nominated in the show's final season.
Award analyst Tom O'Neil believes it wasn't a coincidence that Longoria and her co-star Nicolette Sheridan (Edie Britt) were not nominated in their respective categories. "Ironically, hedonist Hollywood may be making the floozies pay for their sins," he said, adding that Longoria's role had "has less emotional depth" than the others. In response, Cherry vowed to give Longoria more to do. "I'm going to work a little harder this season to make sure she has some fantastic scenes just to try to fix this horrendous error," he said.
