By Antony June 19, 2005 - 9:25 PMHello World! It's with sadness that I do a last-minute change of topic for my site column, after I read about the of the death of Lane Smith. I haven't seen him in a lot, just two TV series and one film. But he was such a likeable actor, with such memorable characters, that I find his passing very sad.
His two TV characters that I liked couldn't have been any more different.
His role of Perry White on Lois and Clark (where he starred with Teri Hatcher), he was a loveable, likeable magazine editor. He often brought a lot of light-hearted fun to the show, whether it be his love of Elvis or troubles with his wife. In V, he played the insidious Nathan Bates, treacherous and sinister and a character that you never could really predict.
However that's just a fraction of what he's done in a career that spans over three decades. Check out his full credits list over at the IMDb.
Rest in peace, Lane. Talk Desperate! threads Join in the discussions, or start a new topic, at the Talk Desperate! discussion forums!
