By Antony April 19, 2006 - 5:55 PMBob Newhart (Morty Flickman) spoke fondly of Desperate Housewives recently, and said that he's always open to returning to the show.
You know, that's funny", he replied, when asked by thedesertsun.com about how he got his Housewives role. "That's another character where they called and asked if I'd be interested. And who wouldn't be working with Lesley Ann Warren (Sophie Mayer) and those girls?" He said that his appearances are sporadic, but he's happy to do more on the show. "But I never know when they're going to call. But if they do and I have the time, I'd be happy [to do more episodes]. It's a great place to work."
Should Housewives run for many years, Newhart said he's always up for work and doesn't plan to retire. "I can't imagine not doing this," he said. "It's in my blood. I might cut back on appearances, but I can't see a time when I'm not working. It's what I do. I make people laugh, and it's a pleasure to do it."
He also spoke about the late Richard Pryor, and said he was an inspiration for comedians. "There are a lot of comedians working today because of him," he said. "He was the first comedian to make fun of being black, of being Puerto Rican. He really believed that if something offends you, someone else will find it equally offensive. And he used his humor to make us all look at a lot of things that weren't being looked at."
