While ABC would no doubt like Desperate Housewives to last forever, James Denton (Mike Delfino) already has other plans in mind.
"In an absolute perfect world, three to four years more out of Housewives and then a couple of projects I felt passionately about—not about money—and then move to Montana," he told Tennessean.com. "After that, maybe a teacher or maybe something more rewarding than acting." But Denton isn't ruling out staying on the show for longer. "It's not like I'm not happy. If they say, 'Work on Housewives for 10 years,' I'm probably not going to say no."
Denton spoke about the Susan/Mike off-on-off relationship, and revealed the writers (at least initially) did have a long term plan for the couple. "People are sick of Susan and Mike chasing each other's tails, so she'll have a new boyfriend, for about six to eight episodes," he said. "Very early on in the show, it was discussed that Mike and Susan need to end up together no matter how long it takes. But they change their minds every day."
Denton will be hosting the revamped Miss America pageant this month for Country Music Television (CMT). He admitted that he initially turned CMT down when offered the job, but was won over when they offered him the gig as part of a deal to star in a movie and develop programming for CMT. He said his wife initially was against the ideal of him hosting the pageant, but later changed her mind. "In the end, obviously, she was on board or I wouldn't have done it. The deal with CMT is a good idea and she likes it."
