A year after being the only one of the four main Housewives to be overlooked by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Eva Longoria (Gabrielle Solis) last week joined her castmates in what was almost a complete takeover of the Golden Globes' Best Comedy Actress category.
Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp), Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo) and last year's winner Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer) all picked up nods again, leaving only one spot open for an actress from another show. This nomination went to Mary-Louise Parker of the Showtime comedy Weeds, a show that is often compared to Desperate Housewives. Both Desperate Housewives and Weeds were also nominated in the category for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy, along with Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, Everybody Hates Chris and My Name Is Earl.
"What a great ending to a magical year," Longoria was quoted on CBS News. "The nomination is made all the more sweet by the fact that I'm in the company of my dear friends and co-stars." In another statement quoted at ContactMusic, the actress revealed she literally fell out of bed after being told the news of her nomination by her sister. "It's nice to be the underdog. Everybody was rooting for me to get nominated. And just that made me cry when I heard in the press room that everybody cheered when they said my name."
Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry sounded equally pleased with the nomination. "Obviously we are excited and thrilled and we so appreciate the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's continued appreciation of our show," Cherry said in a statement. ""We're looking forward to a great party."
