By Antony October 18, 2005 - 5:57 PMIn a break from the usual questions about the show, Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp) got a chance to recently to talk about her love of culture.
Talking to the culture vulture section of the Sunday Express's S magazine, Cross said her favorite book was The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. "It's an epic tale that takes place in Afghanistan, from the last days of the monarchy to the present," she said. "I enjoy reading books that transport me to another country and culture. Now, when I read about Afghanistan in the news, I have more of a feeling for what's happening there."
Cross's favorite play is Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard. "It's a tragedy and a comedy at the same time, a combination that appeals to me. Some day I'd love to play the lead, Madame Ranyevskaya. There are a lot of American actors doing theatre in London at the moment, and I'd be thrilled to do something like this, as it would be totally different from Desperate Housewives." Her top film is All That Jazz. "I first saw it when I was a teenager," she said. "At that age I was longing to be part of the world of the theatre and it really struck a chord with me."
Her favorite piece of music is Chopin's Piano Concerto No 1 ("Chopin's work is sublime") and she also listed her favorite albums, which include Bait & Ammo by her sister Ellen Cross, Joni Mitchell's Blue and every album by The Beatles. She also talked about TV, naming Lost, Absolutely Fabulous and even The Benny Hill Show as her favorites. Discuss this news item at Talk Desperate!
