Once Desperate Housewives settles into its regular pace again next season, viewers will see one Housewife find increasing success as she trades in the kitchen for a posh office all of her own, while other Housewives still try to cope with fall-out from the season premiere.
Get Desperate! sources today revealed that Gabrielle Solis is one of the characters who just seems to be digging herself further and further into a hole. As reported last week, in the first episode of the season, Gabrielle is faced with having both her husband Carlos and her clandestine lover John Rowland in jail. In this second episode, she agrees to go on an errand for the dangerous felon who's sharing a cell with John. She nervously heads over to a shabby neighbourhood to deliver an envelope containing $7,000 in cash to the felon's young wife, and then is stunned when she refuses to accept the money.
Gabrielle tries to convince the wife to take the money -- can't she use it to take care of her kids? The wife laughs in Gabrielle's face. Sure, it'd be useful, but what her sorry excuse for a husband wants her to do with the money is get a boob job. Gabrielle is impressed by the wife's refusal to take the money -- and then, as the door closes on her, she realises she suddenly owns an extra seven thousand dollars. With Carlos no longer bringing in his plush salary, that money will come in very handy...
Lynette Scavo won't have to resort to such desperate measures to feed her children. This episode will show one of her first days on the job at the advertising agency that hired her in the season opener. She has to listen to pitches from hotshot copywriters young enough to be her children, and try to make sense of hare-brained commercial ideas featuring rats being evicted from their homes - "but not in a sad way," as one of the copywriters cautions.
While Lynette is easily able to handle challenges like this, it seems like the agency won't require her to be a career woman 100% of the time, as the season opener has apparently been rewritten to make her boss more sympathetic to her role as a mother. Whereas previously Lynette was just going to trade sports jokes with her prospective boss in the season opener, the reworked version has her going through a crisis when she has to take her baby Penny in to her job interview and leave her in the care of a secretary. But when the secretary is unable to handle Penny, Lynette's maternal instincts kick in, and she takes Penny back into the interview room with her. One of the female executives wants to turn her down straightaway, but the head of the agency, a married man with kids of his own, is more understanding. When Lynette demonstrates her multi-tasking skills by changing Penny's diaper while delivering her pitch to him, he's sold and hires her on the spot.
Besides Lynette and Gabrielle, all the other main characters will also get their fair share of stories in this episode. There's Bree, apparently suffering from insomnia since the death of Rex, and trying to convince her doctors to give her ever-stronger sleeping pills -- but is she really planning to use them just to get a good night's rest? There's Edie, who agrees with one of the building contractors working on her house that it's shameless how some of her neighbours loudly fight out their quarrels on the street -- then tries to get closer so she can hear what the fight's about. And then there's the fallout from the death of another character in the season premiere. Just like last week, it's still unknown exactly which character will be buying the farm -- but it promises to be the cause of several new crises, as more family members of the deceased character butt in on the situation in most unwelcome ways.
Please note that the above plot details have not been confirmed by ABC or Touchstone Television, and until such time you should treat this information as you would any other rumor.
