Marc Cherry People Guide,
Marcia Cross People Guide Attending Outfest, the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry and a number of castmembers gave clues at what's to come in season two.
"We're going darker with some of the storylines," Cherry told attendees at the event (via Yahoo! and New York Daily News). "Alfre Woodard's [Betty Applewhite] character is just up to no good on that street." And despite recently saying that he wanted the show to "settle down a little bit" he promised "more surprises, twists and turns" are to come.
Considering the event, conversation naturally went to Desperate Housewives and its gay following. "I think any time you get four or five really strong women doing desperate, dastardly things, I think gay men get a big kick out of it," said Cherry, who is gay himself. "The moment you put a woman in an evening gown mowing the lawn, it's just gay."
But Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp) told attendees not to expect Wisteria Lane to go all gay pride. "Obviously, it's crept into Bree's life," she said, referring to her character's son Andrew. "There will probably be more to come on that score. But, as of yet, no, it's not like the West Village." However Shawn Pyfrom (Andrew Van De Kamp) seemed wary of labelling his character. "He is a very narcissistic character," he said. "So, you know, basically anything he wants to do, anything that feels good, he does. I think that's more what he is. I don't think he's gay or straight. I think he's just Andrew."
