In a week where Housewives is one again on re-runs, the rumor mill is as creative as ever.

A number of sites, including All Headline News, carried a Bang Showbiz report that Bree Van De Kamp will get a lesbian lover. According to the article, Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall and NYPD Blue's Kim Delaney are being considered for the role.

"Bree will embark on a big romance that will really turn heads," said one of the ever-present show "sources". "In an ironic twist to the false rumors that plagued Marcia [Cross] in real life, straight-laced Bree is set to take on a secret gay lover." The article adds that the story is an attempt to "increase viewing figures" and that creator Marc Cherry will direct the episodes.

In other Desperate Housewives gossip, Hollywood.com claimed that Jared Leto has been cast as a grocery store clerk that falls for Gabrielle Solis. Again there was a "source", who said: "When they were brainstorming about actors, they kept coming back to Jared's name... it's a really juicy role!"

As with any rumors, take them with a pinch of salt. Rumors involving Bree are not new, and not long ago the rumor mill said Bree would be killed off (which was also cited as a way to increase viewing figures). Marc Cherry has not done any directing to date, so it would be somewhat unusual if he did take on this role. If he did, it is unlikely he would do a stretch of episodes. And in terms of the Leto story, casting rumors are certainly nothing new. Last year a The Mirror claimed the cast were furious that scenes had been re-written to make way for Kelly Monaco, only for Marc Cherry to later admit he didn't even know who she was.
