Online reviewers have weighed in on the first Desperate Housewives episode of 2006.

Here's what they had to say about "We're Gonna Be All Right":

  • Michael Slezak reviewing for EW.com heaped praise on what he saw as a return to form for Susan Mayer:

Whether or not Susan's newly diagnosed ''wandering spleen'' is the cause, I'm glad to see that this week she finally got her pluck back. Susan's flirtation with Dr. Ron (Coupling's Jay Harrington) was equal parts charming, awkward, and ill advised. Coincidentally, this might be the exact emotional formula that allows us all to laugh at Susan and yet still root for her. • Dave Anderson meanwhile at TV Guide Online had praise for Tom Scavo. "Best plot tonight was the Tom and Lynette story where she wanted him to get a vasectomy after he told her he'd want to possibly have a new family if she died unexpectedly. I was so glad he decided against it. The whole episode was just another opportunity for Doug Savant to shine. That part at the end when he admitted to being unhappy—wow. Chills. "

  • But Sarah Gilbert at TV Squad was angry with Lynette. "Her hypothetical jealousy is ridiculous, childish, pointless, immature. It causes a rift in their marriage that's all her fault—and the whole first season we were sure that Tom would be the one to cause problems with his roving eye. While Tom certainly plays the injured party to the hilt—I almost want to cry in that closing scene when he confronts her in their dining room —I have a hard time believing that Lynette can be so cold."

  • RT at Desperate for Desperate Housewives echoed the thoughts of other reviewers, that Lynette's story was poor but Tom's provided some good moments:

For pure entertainment value, Lynette's story was the least interesting last night, though I did like that her story seems to be actually going somewhere. It made for an interesting curve ball as they went from chickenpox to a vasectomy. But the story truly heated up in its final moments, as Tom admitted to the problem in their marriage. Tom and Lynette have had their disagreements in the past, but with this one extending past the end of the episode, it seemed a bit bigger than much of what they've had before.

The full review can be found at Desperate for Desperate Housewives, as well as a scene-by-scene analysis.

  • There is also brief recap at Television Without Pity, where visitors have so far rated the episode B+ in a poll.

  • Finally, to tide you over to the next new episode, there is a new episode of Desperate Houseflies online.
