She may not be in Desperate Housewives anymore, but Lupe Ontiveros (Juanita Solis) is keeping busy with some indy movies.
Waiting for the Sun is "character-driven science fiction movie", director Marlo Angell told LJWorld.com. The film tells the story of Eve, a young amnesiac woman who makes a surprising self-discovery. Angell revealed that he created Ontiveros's part especially for her. "I wrote the part with her in mind and sent it to her agent, and she agreed to do it," said Angell. Shooting is set to finish in September, and the movie will hopefully appear at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
Ontiveros will also be starring in Universal Signs next month, reported Philadelphia Enquirer. The movie dramatizes the experience of a deaf person through the story of a depressed, lonely man. It will be silent but have captions, and will rely on music heavily to set the mood of the film. It will also be mostly in black and white. This film, like Waiting for the Sun, is intended for the festival circuit in next year.
September is proving to be a busy month for the Ontiveros. On September 18 Ontiveros will find out if she's won the Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series Emmy award for her role in Desperate Housewives. It's one of eleven Emmy awards that Desperate Housewives could win. She is up against fellow Desperate Housewives guest star Kathryn Joosten (Mrs. McClusky), as well as actresses from Malcolm In The Middle and Everybody Loves Raymond.
