Steven Culp (Rex Van De Kamp) said he believes that his character was a victim of the speed at which the Desperate Housewives writers were going through story ideas.
"My suspicion is that I wasn't supposed to go until next year," he told Yahoo!. "But they went so fast. We were doing things in December that we weren't going to do until the season finale." Culp said he doesn't know what's in store for the other characters in the show now that he's gone. "I have no idea where the show is going to go. There's going to be lots of changes all the time."
Culp explained that many people refuse to believe he's gone, but as far as he knows Rex is dead. "I'm gone, I'm gone. I think all the men have the feeling that it was never going to last. Our time is limited on that show. It's really about the women. And I think we had a great year. I'm really proud of the character we came up with, and I'm proud of the work, and I had a great time and I'm looking forward to the next thing."
When asked if he thinks any of the female cast members will be written out of the show, he said that it may happen later in the show's run. "They'll survive the second season, but I think when people get tired of the male characters leaving the women better watch out," he laughed. "They're next! That's just my opinion."
Meanwhile, TV Guide is reporting that Culp is set to return to The West Wing in his role as House Speaker Jeff Haffley. He's appeared in the show nine times to date, his last appearance being towards the end of season six.
