With comparisons to Sex and the City, it's apparent that many people see Desperate Housewives as a show designed to appeal to women. But Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer) said she feels the show appeals to both genders.
"I think the most dominant thing about the show is just the overall piece, and how fun it is to watch," she said in an interview with Belgian TV program De Rode Loper (via the Teri Hatcher Website). "It definitely has that element of women wanting to get together and watch it, but I was just having a male friend of mine say to me this morning that just as many men watch it because they wanna know, you know, 'How's my wife really thinking when I'm not in the house?' So they're kind of looking at it from that point of view."
Reflecting on the Golden Globe awards, where she picked up an award for her role as Susan Mayer, she said the most important part of the evening was being with her castmates. "It was like a wedding, it just zoomed by then it was over," said Hatcher. "We all had a really good time. One of things I had been looking forward to most of it was the way the Globes are presented is that you all sit around the table and you know you're eating, and having champagne and it was really the first time all of us girls have actually got to have the feeling of being at a little bit of an intimate party for us. You know, giggling, drinking and just having a good time. And then winning was sort of secondary to that."
Hatcher feels she is lucky she landed the lead role in Desperate Housewives. "I really wanted to go back in the right TV show," she said. "I just wanted it to be the right part, and really really lucky for me that that happened. So I lucked out and got the right one."
