"The death rate is very high because a lot of them are in your lower income areas socioeconomically. They don't detect it early enough because they don't have healthcare or health insurance," he said. "Another main reason why it's been hidden a lot is a lot of Latinos won't allow their women to go to the doctor because they don't want a male doctor checking out their wife or their daughter or their sister."

• USA Today has an article on the advertising practices of the US networks, including how ABC has converted shows like Desperate Housewives to a six-act structure so that the amount of ads wasn't increased but they are now shown more frequently. "The way the structure was before didn't make any sense," said ABC Entertainment chief Steve McPherson. "You'd have people sit through a commercial break to come back to 30 seconds of programming [at the end of an episode]."

• JoBlo.com reviewed the first season DVD box set of Desperate Housewives. "I feel partially embarrassed to say this, but wow, this is a good show. This show takes the phrase 'guilty pleasure' to a whole new level. I remember when it first aired on ABC that all the promotional spots and all the advertisements made it out to be a sexy, cheap soap opera. I actually didn't watch it because of that, but let me tell you, I was wrong. Desperate Housewives is an intelligent, fun dramedy that will have you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire season."

• Chicago Tribue reported that a Catholic priest has urged people not to watch Desperate Housewives for the sinful acts in the show. ""If more people watch stuff like that, it becomes OK in society," he said.

• Keith McDuffee at TV Squad analysed why the show is avoided by some men. "The title. Definitely the number one reason guys don't tune into this show. It's about Housewives. Not just any old housewives, but Desperate ones. Desperate for what? Oh lord, I'd have to sit and watch an hour long show about why these housewives are so miserable and desperate? The title just screams for a woman-only audience."
