After spiking past the 26m mark last week, Desperate Housewives dropped down to 25m viewers with its latest episode.
According to figures released by MediaWeek, "Goodbye For Now" scored a 17.3 rating with a 24 share. These figures mean that of all households in the United States with television sets, 17.3% were tuned into DH, as well as 24% of those households actually watching television on Sunday at 9:00pm. The show pulled a 10.8/24 rating in the coveted 18–49 demographic.
The episode was down in every indicator (0.1/1 overall, 0.6/3 in 18–49, 1.16m viewers), and it's the show's lowest numbers since the special clip-show episode aired at the end of April. However the results were in no way poor, and were still at the upper end of viewing figures gained since the show began last year.
One reason for the somewhat diminished figures could be CBS's finale to the reality TV series Survivor: Palau. The second half of the two-hour program competed with Desperate Housewives,, and it picked up 20.3m viewers in total—around 7m viewers more than the network's Elvis special last week.
Overall, CBS came close to taking ABC's Sunday crown. ABC won by only 410,000 viewers in total, and in the 18–49 demographic the networks got 7.2/18 and 6.1/16 respectively.
