By Antony May 16, 2005 - 6:20 PMABC, home of Desperate Housewives, will tomorrow give its upfront presentation to advertisers, where it will unveil its planned 005–2006 schedule.
According to Mediaweek, one drama that ABC is considering commissioning is Invasion, a show that would focus on a Florida town that's taken over by aliens. Another rumored pick-up is Commander-in-Chief, which would focus on Geena Davis as the US's first female president. On the sitcom front, the site reports Emily’s Reasons Why Not is under strong consideration. It stars Heather Graham—who recently dipped her toe into TV waters in NBC's Scrubs—as an author in search of love.
The Futon Critic meanwhile says it has a leaked list of the ABC shows that will be unveiled at the upfronts. The 11 new programs are: Crumbs, Emily's Reasons Why Not, Freddie, Hot Properties, Sons & Daughters, Commander-in-Chief, The Evidence, In Justice, Invasion, The Night Stalker and What About Brian. One of the surprise returns for a second season is Jake in Progress, but it isn't surprising that Eyes—of which ABC only aired five episodes before pulling it—won't be back. It would also seem that Soccer Moms, which ABC had been aligning with the Desperate Housewives market, didn't get picked up.
The upfront presentations are when advertisers can start to buy advertising on the networks' new schedules. Mediaweek predicts that around $500m of revenue will swing between the networks, with thriving ABC set to make the best gains. NBC will probably come out worst due to falling primetime ratings.
