By Antony March 16, 2005 - 8:49 PMTV Land's third annual A Celebration of Classic TV awards Sunday awarded Desperate Housewives with a 'Future Classic' gong.
The event, which airs tonight on TV Land, had a number of cast members in attendance, including Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer) and Eva Longoria (Gabrielle Solis), according to a TV Land press release. It was Hatcher who presented the award to show creator Marc Cherry. Longoria meanwhile presented Sally Field with a 'Little Screen/Big Screen Star' award.
As part of the awards event, TV Land unveiled a four minute parody of the show, according to ETonline.com. The scene, which spoofed memorable moments such as Susan burning down Edie's house, starred famous television actresses such as Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeannie) as Edie and Joyce DeWitt (Three's Company) as Susan.
At the even, Hatcher spoke about about what it's like to work with Bob Newhart, who will be appearing on the show as Susan's mother's estranged boyfriend. "It's so funny because I was working with him and I was so nervous," she said. "I said, 'I don't know what to call you -- Bob or Mr. Newhart.' And he said, 'Legend will be good.'"
Meanwhile, according to the Philadelphia Daily News, Cherry is interested in giving a role to classic TV comedienne Carol Burnett. Speaking at the TV Land Awards to Access Hollywood, she said she was open to the idea. "I haven't watched it, but I would certainly be interested in what he has to say," she said. "Hey, a gig is a gig, as long as it's not a lot of hours and you get a meal."
The event airs tonight at 9pm on TV Land, and will be simulcast on Nick at Nite. For those wanting to see some photos, a number have been posted online. There are some photos at the Eva Longoria Tribute site, while The-Suburbs.com has posted images of Brenda Strong (Mary Alice Young), Eva Longoria, James Denton (Mike Delfino), Steven Culp (Rex Van De Kamp) and Teri Hatcher.
