Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp) recently revealed that she was so exhausted by the first year of Desperate Housewives that she couldn't face any more work in the summer hiatus.
"I was exhausted," she told PARADE Magazine. "Taking another role would have been like running a marathon after a marathon." But she said that season two had been a lot better, and more easier on the cast. "It has such a good flow, and the scripts are good. We're all more relaxed this time. There's less chaos."
However now the second season is in swing, the actress seems to be as busy as ever. On her day off she had a meeting that morning, followed by the PARADE interview and then "later on I have to learn my lines". Cross had also flown from LA to New York for a Letterman appearance earlier in the week, only to have to fly right back to resume filming. But Cross said the hard work is worth it, and added that what attracted her to the show in the first place was "it had all these good women's parts and the writing was fantastic".
She also admitted that she can't cook, and spoke further about her lack of culinary expertise to Grazia. "I was getting anxious because [Cross's fiance Tom Mahoney] would come home and I would feel like there should be food on the table. But Tom sat me down and said, "Honey, it's not the 1950s. I'm a grown man we can work this out."
