Doug Savant (Tom Scavo) and his wife are the proud parents of a baby girl who was delivered last Thursday 8 June 2005.

Lucy Leighton Savant is the second child for the couple—they also have a four-year-old son named Jack. Savant also has two daughters from a previous marriage. Savant met his wife when starring with her on Melrose Place, and they've been married since 1998.

Another Desperate Housewives actor also became a father recently, after James Denton's (Mike Delfino) second child came into the world in March (story).

• Nicolette Sheridan (Edie Britt) luckily escaped injury after her hair caught fire in a candle shop. "My hair must have brushed on the wick of an aromatic candle as I bent over to smell it," she said. "Suddenly, there was an awful smell of burning and I realized it was me on fire." A member of staff quickly poured a cold vase of water over her head, putting out the fire.

• Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer) said that there's no excuse for journalists to print lies about her because she answers queries personally. "Every week, I'll get a call from the tabloids asking, 'Is it true you threw a bottle in Nicolette Sheridan's face?'" she said. "The best story was how I'm not invited to her wedding. We both had a good laugh because there is no wedding! In fact, we go riding with my daughter every week. That's how much we don't hate each other!"

• Teri Hatcher said she is too insecure to wear a bikini. "I wear a swimsuit, never a bikini. Maybe 50 per cent would say I look cute but the other 50 per cent would say that my ass is a little droopy".

• Teri Hatcher cried after the Vanity Fair incident. "I'm pretty sure I cried when I left [the shoot]... feeling hurt and maybe picked on. I really care about all the girls. Nobody wants to work that way. There are lots of reasons someone behaves how they do."

• Jesse Metcalfe (John Rowland) has said he wouldn't date a married woman. "I've never had an affair with a married woman. That would be asking for trouble, wouldn't it?" he said. "As for older women, I have had relationships with people who were not my age. I certainly wouldn't date someone much younger than me. It's frustrating to be with someone who doesn't have the same life experience."
