She may be an Oscar-nominee, but Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo) admitted she was frightened to meet Jane Fonda when she was cast as Huffman's mother in Georgia Rule.
In an appearance on Regis and Kelly, Huffman said that the cast were to meet for a read-through of the script for the movie, but meeting Fonda had her worried. "I have to say I changed my clothes about five times, going 'What does one wear to meet an icon? I have no idea'," she admitted. "She has an amazing presence, and she's very powerful, and yet she's open and loving and vulnerable and frightened just like everybody else."
The movie also stars Lindsay Lohan as Huffman's daughter, and focuses on the three generations of women. "It's basically about [my character], who has a rebellious daughter that I don't know what to do with," she said. "So I send her to the one woman who is like an army camp and a prison all rolled into one: Georgia, who's played by Jane Fonda. So she spends a lot of time in Idaho. My character spends a lot of time in denial."
She also talked briefly about Housewives and her recent "affair of the heart", as Huffman dubbed it. "They brought in an a wonderful actor, named Jason Gedrick, who's been around for a while. And Tom's been out of the pizzeria because he hurt is back, and I've just been just buried under all the work, and in comes this guy—the character's name is Rick—and he saves it, because he's a four star chef. And likes me. So I like that. So we start sort of a flirtation."
Parts one and two of the interview can be watched at YouTube.
Meanwhile, Georgia Rule has been receiving not very glowing reviews, largely due to its dark tone. "Do not take your mom to Georgia Rule unless she's Roseanne Barr. You may expect a three-generational chick flick, but what you get is a child-rape comedy", said Kyle Smith in the New York Post. Lael Loewenstein in the LA Times said that Georgia Rule is "weighted down by too much disturbing material to work as a glossy, lighthearted comedy, yet dappled with too many broad comic moments to stand as a serious film." And Eleanor Ringel Gillespie in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution criticised Fonda's choice of film, saying: "If, as Fonda has said, she's ready to return to acting, I wish she'd return to acting."
