The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the US government agency that regulates communications such as TV and radio, has deemed that an ABC skit featuring Nicolette Sheridan (Edie Britt) last year did not violate the law.
The promo, which saw Sheridan supposedly seduce football player Terrell Owens in the locker room, aired at the beginning of Monday Night Football on November 14, 2004 and also featured Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer) and Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo). The scene attracted complaints from viewers and the National Football League, but according to Reuters (via Yahoo! News) the FCC did not uphold the complaint.
"We conclude that the material in question is not patently offensive, and thus, not indecent," said the FCC. "In particular, the Monday Night Football segment, although sexually suggestive, is not graphic or explicit."
If ABC had been found guilty, each station that aired the sketch could have been fined up to $32,500 each under indecency laws.
