Marcia Cross People Guide,
Felicity Huffman People Guide It's been a worldwide hit, but Desperate Housewives is about to face one its biggest hurdles—that of the Emmy awards, and the opinion of the Hollywood industry. If the nominations are anything to go by, the show is set to continue with its customary success.
The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences today announced a total of 434 separate nominations in 88 categories. Desperate Housewives and Will and Grace led the pack amongst series with a total of 15 nominations each. ABC received a total of 51 nominations for it shows.
Below is a full list of all the nominations Desperate Housewives received this year. Some nominees have their Emmy history listed besides them, indicating how many seasons the show been on air (prior to this season), how many nominations that show/person received, and how many times they've won:
- Outstanding Comedy Series — Desperate Housewives is up against Arrested Development (1 season, 1 nomination, 1 win) Everybody Loves Raymond (8 seasons, 6 nominations, 0 wins), Scrubs (3 seasons, 0 nominations, 0 wins) and Will & Grace (6 seasons, 5 nominations, 1 win). As it won last year in its first season, Desperate Housewives will need to unseat Arrested Development. Meanwhile Scrubs has finally broken into this category.

There are many nominations, but many rejections too. She may have had a lot of attention off screen, but Eva Longoria was the only main castmember not receive a nomination—leaving a line up of nominees who are all over 40. It also wasn't good for the supporting cast, with not one person getting a look in.
Marcia Cross reacted with sadness that Nicolette Sheridan (Edie Britt) wasn't nominated. "I'm sad about it," Cross told The Associated Press (via Yahoo!). "I really thought Nicolette was a shoo-in." However she wasn't sad for Longoria. "In terms of Eva, my prediction is she's leaving us all in the dust," she said.
Although it didn't accumulate the most nominations (HBO once again ruled the roost with 93 and CBS received 59), ABC did get 51 nominations—significantly up from last year's 33. This was helped by other newcomer Lost which picked up 12 nominations. Desperate Housewives lead-out show also picked up 3 nominations.
Away from Desperate Housewives, co-executive producer Kevin Murphy's Reefer Madness picked up three nominations. He received a nomination personally for composing its music.
Voting will now begin for the overall winner in each category, with the winners to be announced on September 18 2005.
