Bree had a number of trials thrown her way during season one, but it was the season finale and the death of her on-screen husband that was most traumatic for Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp).
"From the minute I got that script, I was in a lot of pain because I knew it would be really hard to do," she told venice. "I drummed up a lot of experiences I've had in my own life. We were supposed to do that scene on one day, then we didn't, but I was already emotionally down that road. By the time we shot it, I was so happy to be finished."
It was Cross's dedication to the role that made the process particularly draining for her "I don't dial anything in," she said, referring to the process of how actors sometimes read lines over the telephone. "I definitely go there, and I was really exhausted. It was one of the last things I did and it practically made me ill. I don't know if you've ever lost anybody, but if you really tap into that feeling of loss, it's just horrible. I was certainly drawing on how it was for me."
Cross said she is apprehensive about season two, and what she will need to tackle. "I'm scared about next year. I'm also excited, but the initial part will be how she's going to deal with that kind of loss, how she's going to pull through. I'm sure it will be taxing. I'll need my summer vacation." Cross said she plans to take it easy over the hiatus, and has no work plans. "I don't think I can work right now, I feel really spent ... I don't know what I'd have to bring to bring to anything right now. I want to see friends and family and sleep late. Indulge."
