"I think people are a little more critical, a little pickier about their show, a little protective of their characters." He also said his character may get a new love interest. "Oddly enough, it might happen. So stay tuned."

• A review at News 14 Carolina has criticized the quality of the second season. "I went back and watched the first season of Desperate Housewives, which was recently released on DVD. It really amazed me how engaging the show was, how fresh the characters appeared and— most impressively of all—how the producers managed to plot out and pace a season-long mystery with such skill and precision ... it is a marked contrast to what we've seen so far in the second season. Last year, we were desperate to find out what horrible secret led Mary Alice to kill herself. This year, we have some dude locked in a basement. That's not such a fair trade-off."

"A show like Desperate Housewives may be somewhat bawdy but it has a definite appeal that cuts across class and economic lines, because it's the number two show on television. There are a lot of people who say they're worried about sex on television, but they're watching nonetheless."

• The New York Times reported that a new Emmy award will be created to recognize original video content for computers, cellphones and other hand-held devices. Desperate Housewives will not be eligible as it is not specially created for the medium.

• Redding reported that the suburbs have arrived in popular culture, providing the setting for television series such as Desperate Housewives.
