  • It is with sadness that Get Desperate! starts off with news of the death of Jeff who wrote reviews for his website Desperate for Desperate Housewives, and was regularly featured in the review round up. He did not write a review of the episode before his tragic death, but he did write a scene-by-scene summary the day before he died. Our condolences go to his family and friends.

  • Michael Slezak, back from his vacation and reviewing for EW.com, was not happy to see the return of Sophie Mayer.

I promised myself it'd take more than a couple of shaky plot twists to make me press the panic button. And so, how do the show's writers repay my faithfulness? By choosing to bring back Susan's colossally irritating mother, Sophie, who isn't so much a character as she is a jarring distraction. With that strained, singsong speaking voice, and her flailing arms and eyelashes, Warren is clearly working overtime to achieve loveable-bimbette status, but instead she comes off like a large, awkward bird that's staggered onto the set and begun squawking and flapping its wings to no avail." He also said the magic is absent from the show. "Six episodes into its sophomore season, that special kind of Housewives magic has gone the way of Betty Applewhite. You know she's alive and well and living right there on Wisteria Lane, and yet, good luck finding her on your TV screen."

  • Sarah Gilbert at TV Squad was impressed with Teri Hatcher's performance. "Whatever we've all thought of Teri Hatcher and her portrayal of Susan until now, wow. Her performance in that last scene was so thoroughly desperate, so miserable, so heartbreakingly real. That's how it looks, she played it to the hilt. I'll never badmouth her as an actress again."

  • While many reviewers liked the scenes in the Van De Kamp household, Dave Anderson at TV Guide Online found quite a few scenes amused him. "It was hilarious when [Sophie] thought Mike was there to pop the question to Susan. Wrong question. Of course it had to be Paul Young who told Mike that Susan gave Zach money to leave town. Loved the scene where all the neighbors were outside freaking out because Paul was back and the police were there. Best line was Edie's: 'I win—I made out with him.' Pretty sad that it took a $900 suit to make Lynette a better marketing exec, but I liked when she bought her hubby golf clubs with carbon-fiber shafts just so he could feel the money, too."

  • John Duran at InsidePulse.com posted a recap of the episode. He wasn't impressed with the scenes with Susan, or many scenes at all for that matter": "Aside from Gabrielle and Bree, not the least bit interesting and actually quite insulting as they were expecting us to cry when Susan prances out in a wedding dress crying. George is the man, however, so bonus points for that. Still, I just wish I wasn't watching this show. Especially since they neglected the Applewhites once again."

  • There is also full recap at Television Without Pity, where visitors have so far rated the episode A in a poll.

  • Finally, too tide you over until the next new episode, there is a new edition of Desperate Houseflies online.
