By Antony July 14, 2005 - 12:12 AMWhen it comes to choosing a great show from the past season, it seems critics are spoilt for choice.
Desperate Housewives and Lost have battled it out in TV critics' opinion polls in the run up the Emmy awards, with each scoring a win. In Broadcasting & Cable's survey of the industry, Desperate Housewives beat out its fellow ABC show Lost to the #1 spot. However in a poll by Television Week, Lost was the victor.
The Emmy process officially began last month, with ABC launching a flurry of marketing to promote its new shows. All castmembers of Desperate Housewives were put forward for consideration, and the show itself was put forward for nomination in the Comedy Series and Comedy Writing categories.
Marc Cherry recently said his expecations were "modest" when it came to the Emmys. "You can never predict these things," he said. "Some great shows like Moonlighting are always bridesmaids, and we can't put the cart before the horse—we haven't even been nominated yet. I mean, for a first-year show like us to get even a few nominations, I'll be ecstatic—and everyone here would be thrilled."
The nomination period ended on June 22 and tomorrow, at 5:30am PDT on July 14, the official nominations will be released. Voting for the Emmy winners will then take place, and the winners will be announced on 18.
