With Desperate Housewives battling it out with Olympics coverage on NBC, and losing, the surprise victor for the evening was lead-out show Grey's Anatomy.
According to figures released by Zap2it, "Silly People" scored a 14.5 rating with a 20 share. These figures mean that of all households in the United States with television sets, 14.5% were tuned into DH, as well as 20% of those households actually watching television on Sunday at 9:00pm.
Desperate Housewives was in second place, a position with which it is not familiar, to NBC's Olympics coverage. But it did beat a re-runs of Cold Case on CBS, The Simpsons and The War At Home on Fox and a new episode of Charmed on the WB.
Dealing another blow to Housewives was Grey's Anatomy. As the lead-out show for Housewives it has always played second fiddle, never bettering Housewives' ratings. That is, until now. It beat the Olympics coverage with a 15.4/24 score, and built on Housewives' 14.5/20. Although the Olympics coverage had more viewers overall for the evening (it was on for four hours), Grey's Anatomy received the highest rated show.
Overall NBC won the evening with a 13.2/20 rating, and ABC came a respectable second with 11.3/17. CBS was a distant third with 6.0/9, with Fox and the WB trailing behind.
