By Antony September 12, 2005 - 9:31 PMDesperate Housewives racked up four Emmys yesterday in the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, including a guest actress nod for Kathryn Joosten (Mrs. McClusky).
The awards won are as follows:
Outstanding Casting For A Comedy Series
Won by Scott Genkinger and Junie Lowry-Johnson.
The pair fought off competition for their counterparts on Arrested Development, Entourage, Scrubs and Will & Grace. Arrested Development won this award last year, but with a different casting director. So all nominees were was waiting for their first win with their nominated shows.
Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Comedy Series
Won by Michael Berenbaum for his work on "Pilot".
Berenbaum beat Arrested Development's three nominations in this category, as well well as colleague Jonathan Posell who was nominated for the Desperate Housewives episode "Pretty Little Picture". Arrested Development won last year, but went home empty handed in 2005.
Outstanding Main Title Theme Music
Won by Danny Elfman.
Elfman took Desperate Housewives to victory, beating a varied mix of competitors. Other shows to receives nominations were Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, Huff, Justice League Unlimited and Stargate Atlantis. Last year Monk took home this trophy.
Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series
Won by Kathryn Joosten as Mrs. McClusky.
Joosten took home her first ever Emmy, beating Everybody Loves Raymond's Georgia Engel, Malcolm in the Middle's Cloris Leachman, Will & Grace's Blythe Danner and fellow Desperate Housewives actress Lupe Ontiveros (Juanita Solis). The award last year was won by Frasier's Laura Linney. Engel (who has now been nominated three times) and Leachman (who has been nominated five times) once again miss out.
However, it wasn't all wins for Desperate Housewives. In three categories won by HBO's Carnivàle last year, Desperate Housewives was kept out in the cold as the awards stayed with cable networks:
Outstanding Art Direction For A Single-Camera Series
Production designer Thomas Walsh, art director P. Erik Carlson and set decorator Erica Rogalla lost out to their counterparts on Deadwood.
Outstanding Costumes For A Series
Deadwood was once again a thorn in Desperate Housewives' side, after Deadwood's costume designer and supervisor beat Desperate Housewives' costume designer Catherine Adair and costume supervisors Karo Vartanian and Joyce Unruh Goodwin.
Outstanding Main Title Design
This award went to the title designer of Huff, beating Desperate Housewives' Garson Yu and Yolanda Santosa.
Desperate Housewives writer Kevin Murphy also took home the Outstanding Music And Lyrics Emmy for his work on Reefer Madness.
HBO ruled the roost with a total of 20 Creative Arts Emmys. Of the main broadcast networks, ABC came top with 10 followed by NBC on 8, CBS on 6 and Fox on 4.
The Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be broadcast on Saturday September 17, at 7pm on E!. The Annual Emmy Awards, where the more prominent categories are announced, will take place on Sunday September 18 and will be broadcast on CBS at 8/7c pm.
