By Antony June 12, 2005 - 8:17 PMHello World! I was at the cinema again, watching Revenge of the Sith again. What an amazing film, I'm becoming a real Star Wars addict, and now I'm out of things to watch in the franchise. Let's hope this TV series comes about.
But anyway, I saw some more movie trailers which fill me with a mix of opinions. Here's my brief thoughts on films coming this summer:
- War of the Worlds: Cruise and Spielberg again. I loved Minority Report, and War of the Worlds looks fun albeit a bit dumb. I'm not expecting War to be as thought provoking Report.
- Bewitched: I'm very much looking forward to this. Nicole Kidman is my favorite actress, and I'm a big fan of the Bewitched TV series. But Will Ferrell is putting me off, in the trailers he's nothing like the real Darren and screeches about in typical Ferrell fashion.
- Herbie: another remake, I adored these films as a kid. Should hopefully be good fluffy fun, but I don't like how animated Herbie looks now—he shouldn't be that expressive, he's a car for crying out loud!
- Fantastic Four: should be good fun in the vain of X-Men. Hot cast to boot doesn't hurt. If it does well on its opening, expect news of the sequel to be announced with 48 hours.
- Narnia: part of it appeals to me, but then seeing part of the trailer—which makes it look rather Lord of the Rings—puts me off. Lord of the Rings bored me to tears, and I just feel an automatic reflex go up when I see hordes of mystical looking armies. Still, it has no Orlando Bloom which can only be good.
- Serenity: a show gets axed after just a few episodes and, I know, let's make a film! Whatever possessed them to create a Firefly movie is beyond me. I didn't really like the show, and I don't have any respect now for Joss Whedon after Buffy and Angel both devolved into crap. But, I admit, the film trailer looks pretty good!
- Batman Begins: The trailer left me cold, but I'm really not at a Batman fan. And Katie Holmes has about as much screen presence as a wet fish. (Just joking, that's to annoy Christian who is officially in love with her).
- Mr. and Mrs. Smith: worth it for Angelina, Brad and Doug Liman all mixed into a film. Looks fun, but I'll wait to see what it's like. It's out now, so I should go see it.
- Sin City: also out, and it looks immensely cool. And the second Jessica Alba film to feature on my list—gotta love Jessica!
I can't say I have any real must-see movies though, not a lot of anticipation. I often find I just see many, then I find the ones I really like. And often in unexpected places.Talk Desperate! threads Join in the discussions with other fans at Talk Desperate! Poll Results Below are the results of the most recent Get Desperate! poll:
