Numerous websites are quoting comments made by Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer) in a recent radio interview, alleging that she is thinking of leaving Desperate Housewives.
"I just think everything comes to a natural close at some stage, doesn't it?", Hatcher is quoted as saying at Digital Spy—just one of the many sites to carry her words. She went on to say that "the world of film does sound appealing again." However these are the only two quotes carried by the websites, and there is no information on when or where the interview took place, or any context to her comments.
Hatcher's contract is up for renewal at the end of the season, so is likely that negotiations will begin soon. Earlier in the year she negotiated a 650% pay rise. Her comments, if indeed true, could be a way of stating that she is not just going to extend her contract without deliberation and further negotiation. One possible point of discussion could be her prominence in the show, and whether the Desperate Housewives spin-off could focus on her as previously rumored.
In other news, Teri Hatcher said that she thought the Desperate Housewives producers would cast her as Gabrielle, reported IrelandOn-line. "I thought they'd see me as Gabrielle, the ex-model, but then they said: 'Oh, we're going to go Spanish with that.' So I thought, maybe I could be Lynette because I understand what it's like to be a harassed working mum," she said. "But, really, I just wanted to play Susan. It's not a type of role I've auditioned for, so I was so shocked they even let me try."
